Orbison did indeed do a song about driving through the night.   I don't mind night driving, empty roads, less hold-ups, though it's something I don't do too often, it depends.

I got back home about 4am Saturday morning,  my daughter Jo had arrived from Cornwall Saturday morning.  I grabbed about 3hrs sleep and strangely she was more tired than I, we went to the cinema in the evening and she was falling asleep...lol, whereas I felt as fresh as a daisy.

Scotland holiday wasn't too bad, a little lonely,  but it was brightened up a little when I gave a lift to two ladies from Finland who were making their way down the A82 to Fort William and were walking to a bus stop, the buses are every 2hrs.   They were staying at the Premier Inn in Fort William for 6days, and I was most pleased when they accepted my offer to treat them to a evening meal, so we arranged to meet up 4hrs later in the restaurant.
They were excellent company for a couple hours,  they cheered me up no end and their English was likely better than mine.

The holiday was slightly marred however by a necessary trip to the Raigmore  hospital A&E in Inverness on the Monday, as a hernia that's been giving me a little trouble for some time decided to pop out causing excruciating pain,  but the doc fixed it temporarily.   So now I'm awaiting an appointment to arrive  so I can get it sorted at our own hospital,  the sooner the better as it's been giving quite a bit of discomfort today which I could have done without as my daughter and I, had that meeting with the hospital management and consultants today...IOW the conclusion of their 5 months investigation into Ann's death.

Thanks Mike...yes I will do,  I've had it for many years,  it was discovered by a cardiologist 9yrs years ago after a heart attack during a examination,   saying did you know you have a small hernia in your groin?,  I actually didn't realise I had a hernia at the time, and it's given no real problems until the last 12 months or so.  Gradually getting worse, increasing noticeably in size too,  hopefully it will get sorted over the next few weeks,  I may even end up with a flatter lower tummy with a bit of luck...lol

My late wife Ann used to suffer from Sleep Apnea too,  she used to use what they call a C-Pap machine at night, which the hospital supplied her with,   thankfully it also reduced her snoring too...lol

However... what I'd give to hear that snoring again.

I've mainly worked nights for years Brian and it was s bit of a shock to me how busy the roads are of a day. Journeys take at least twice as long and during the school run I sometimes feel like giving up.

I've had a hernia for years but mine is an epigastric one. The only symptom so far is it looks like an alien is trying to get out of my stomach if I do anything resembling a sit up. Luckily I don't do sit ups because operations terrify me.  Lol

Hubby I think it was carrying a couple suitcases up 2 flights of stairs that triggered mine off,  but it's something I've been putting off for years so it looks like it's time to get it sorted.

I tend to keep away from doctors and hospitals as much as possible,  when I spoke to my doctor today when he rang me, he said it was over twelve months ago since I last saw him regarding slow water works (enlarged prostrate) and I mentioned the hernia to him then but apparently I told him not to bother with it at that time,  however I don't think I have a choice now.   AIS the plus side besides no pain is I might end up with  a flatter lower tummy...lol...fingers xxx.

Well that has to be the first time I have heard of a hernia operation being of cosmetic value.

As my wife used to often say....  PMA...(positive mental attitude)   you have to see the possible pluses in every situation Karena...lol

And while on a positive note.   I joined a group of people this evening called friends of Worcester,  a group of over 40's up to 80+yrs who meetup every week for social outings, meals,  coach trips in UK and abroad, including 10 pin bowling etc plus xmas do's and many other events.  They have approx 105 members in total, though obviously it's rare so many turn up.
Tonights meet was their weekly pub meetup, where they meet in  a different pub each week from 8.30pm till throwing out time.   Probably about 30 or so there tonight,  but really friendly people, and probably the best evening I've had since Ann passed away 6 months ago,  I'm looking forwards to their 10 pin Bowling session on Friday, should be interesting...lol.. it's £24 for 6 months membership,  but many events are subsidised out of the fees as its a non-profit making group run by the members themselves.  They have several coach trips to places in the UK and also holidays outside the UK,   about 45 went to Malta recently.

So hopefully it will be just what the doctor ordered....certainly can't do me any harm.

Oh Brian, what an inspiring post - sounds like a terrific group to be part of and just what the doctor ordered indeed! So good to hear the enthusiasm in your writing and I look forward to hearing more about your outings.  How did you hear about it - is it specifically aimed at bereaved people? Anyway, have fun and I hope it brings you many happy times

Thanks Angela and Norma.

Unfortunately,  no it's not purely for bereaved people,  though I met several who had lost their husband or wife in recent years, and like myself were seeking to broaden their social life and make friendships, some have been members of the group for 5 or 6yrs.

I actually didn't get home until 1am, as many didn't leave the pub until quite late.  I would say the majority last night were all over 50yrs, probably half in 60's, and 2 or 3 maybe my age.
I didn't get to speak to everyone other than introductions, and it will take ages to remember the names,  but yes it was good and I'm glad I went along.  There's not many weeks where they don't have something happening 2 or 3 times during the week.   They certainly all seem to enjoy it anyway.

Best wishes.....Brian

HOORAY BRIAN!  Lovely to read about your exciting new adventure. Sounds like just the thing for you. Well done for jumping in and taking the chance. Lovely to have fun things to look forward to each week though I do understand that sometimes it fills the lonely space and other times it makes the absence more acute.. But you are creating new memories and moving forward which is good to do when you're ready. Have fun and be kind to yourself

Sounds like just what the doctor ordered Brian and I'm sure you'll be a very popular member. I might look around to see if there is a similar group in my area

Losing a partner leaves a massive empty space especially if, like us, we have been practically joined at the hip to our other half for most of our relationship. I'm busy looking for things to fill the time. Tonight I'm off to watch a mate do a gig in a wine bar. I can't have a drink though because I'm working tomorrow.  :undecided:

Well done Brian .nothing like that here for me unfortunately, one of the reasons I,m thinking of leaving yes its handy for work and moving will mean having to get a car,but work isn't everything it doesn't provide an end to loneliness.the place I,m thinking of is nearer to my youngest daughter and although a group like that isn't for me,There is a volunteer gardening project a college a swimming pool for starters. It also occurred to me last year when I hurt my eye and couldn't see to drive to A and E its not just socialising that makes staying here difficult..
